Wow, what a year 2009 is turning out to be already. I had the most wonderful time photographing Gary and Linsay's wedding at the Chelsea Registry Office in Kings Road.
This reading had everyone choking up!
Apartment 195 is a secret little gem for small wedding parties as it has so many lovely corners and places for great images.
I'm loving my video light and playing creatively with light..

Engagement rings, Wedding Speeches and some..

I've had a bit of time today to catch up on my web reading and I found these very interesting articles that I thought I'd share with you. First off - if you'd like to see "some cool wedding rings, or if you need jewelry design inspiration, definitely check out http://www.rocktographers.com/ which is an entire blog dedicated to wedding ring awesomeness". (Big thanks to the awesome Anne Ruthmann who always writes such great, fun blogs!)

Next up - a humorous and excellent article from the WPJA/Wedpix - How to starve your wedding photographer: A field guide, a gentle and of course non-offensive reminder to all brides and grooms. Please appreciate and do look after your wedding photographer and videographers on the day and ensure they're catered for, they're almost you're shadow on the day so will have spent many hours with you by then, you don't want them fainting on you! Personally I've found the best time to take a quick break away from the guests is when the bride and groom are having their dinner so you're ready to be back in the action when they've completed their meal and continue with reportage photography of their guests without forks mid-air or full cheeks. Of course there are some gems out there where the suppliers are well taken care of - you know who you are, you're my heros! But be warned, it definitely is a favourite of caterers to feed the suppliers last so you often find yourself gulping down in a hurry before the speeches, cake-cutting and first dance!

And last but not least another great article from the WPJA/Wedpix, this one had me gulping down tears..*maybe I'm just a bit of a softie* but I know how often I'm hiding my emotions behind my camera during the speeches! You can't help but be affected by all the emotions that come out during the speeches.. an excellent little read of anticpating people''s reactions: Capturing Wedding Speeches.

Kalum and Bhrinda were recently married (three times!) in an all day extravaganza at Shendish Manor, Berkshire. Their civil ceremony in the morning was attended by closest friends and family, then followed their Hindu ceremony and in the late afternoon their Buddist ceremony followed by a gorgeous dinner reception with traditional Mauritian Sega dancers. It was one of the most special days I've had the privilege of photographing.

I love shooting weddings. As my style is more a combination of fun contemporary, a little formal for the groups and lots of (hopefully emotional) reportage photography, I'm not a member of the wonderful WPJA (Wedding Photo Journalist Association) who's members all shoot in a purely photojournalistic style.

However, I *LOVE* their website and will often draw inspiration from its members work. It's incredible to think that much of what these skilled photographers do is in a purely documentatry, candid and unobtrusive way.

Brides Magazine and the WPJA holds a contest every three months in the following categories - Bride, Bridal Party, Culture/Customs, Ceremony, Getting Ready, Kids, Dancing and Departure. The latest contest results have just been released - have a look here for some truly inspirational photography (I love seeing the judges comments!)

Rejecting the Traditional/Embracing the New and Unusual - Trash The Dress

There's a lot of controversy surrounding the new and exciting trend of Trash The Dress (TTD) and I found this wonderful article on the WPJA's wedpix.com website and thought I'd share it with you here.

A TTD session does not have to mean sacrificing and destroying your dress! Instead the results from a creative portrait shoot with your partner can be stunning imagery of the two of you being relaxed in your wedding finnery in unusual locations other than on the wedding day (be it a couple of days after the wedding or a couple of weeks/months). It's another opportunity to be photographed together looking beautiful, happy and sexy and capturing the love that is there between you as a newly married couple.

I had so much fun photographing Christian and Cristina when the were recently married at St Mark's Church in Kennington/Oval. I did their friends, David & Maribel's wedding last year and it was so lovely to see so many familiar faces.

Christian and Christina were accompanied by 12 gorgeous bridesmaids and 12 handsome groomsmen during their day and a beautiful wedding reception followed in the evening at the Radisson Edwardian at New Providence Wharf, London across from the O2 arena.

Tim and Sara were recently married in Sara's home town of Maesteg in Wales. The ceremony was in St Cynwyds Church in Llangynwyd and a lovely reception followed afterwards at the Maesteg Town Hall.

I drove up with my fiance the day before the wedding and whilst he and some of our friends went biking in the nearby Afan Forest, I photographed Sara and Tim's beautiful summer's day wedding. It was one of the best summer days of the year - they couldn't have asked for better. And I was so pleased for them, especially when I heard Maesteg is one of the wettest places in the UK! Seminar: Jerry Ghionis, Australian Master Photographer

I had the privilege of attending a seminar presented by Jerry Ghionis, voted one of the world’s top ten wedding photographers by American Photo Magazine, on Monday.

Jerry is such an inspirational photographer and I've been following his work for a couple of years now (I love his Pic Pockets - esp. the Ordinary to Extraordinary range: "Wedding photographers are often presented with less than desirable locations, confined spaces and challenging lighting situations. Jerry Ghionis is the master at turning the ordinary into the extraordinary.") and so was pleased to be able to see the master at work!

It was lovely too to have a chance to catch up with some from the networking group as we've all had a busy couple of months. I'm really excited and looking forward to putting into practice some of the new techniques I've learnt from the seminar!

I had the most amazing time in Hawaii recently. I love the Aloha spirit.. such beautiful islands and friendly people and so much fun to be had. Iit was a very special time indeed.. And I'm a very, very happy girl indeed!

Along the amazing "Road to Hana".. 52 miles of beautiful coastline and through gorgeous rainforest with many waterfalls along the way as well as 620 bends and turns and over 59 bridges (46 of which are one-lane only!) We SURVIVED the Road to Hana indeed!

Wailea Coastline.. Isn't this just the most perfect place in the world to be proposed to!! :-) Maui nõ ka ‘oi!

Venezia, Italy

For the bank holiday I escaped for the weekend with my best friend to Venice - it's my third visit in recent years as I *LOOOOOOVE* photographing there. I'm holding thumbs that I'll get to photograph a wedding there soon!

Here are a few of my favourites from the weekend:

I love the islands of Murano and Burano and we had a great time photographing all the colourful glass, coloured buildings and various textures. I also had a great play around with various solid one colour backgrounds with my friend and seeing and comparing how differing colours and tones suit some people better in portrait photography. Venezia and her islands really is a photographer's dream!

By choosing a SWPP and BPPA photographer clients are assured not only of hiring a talented photographer (me!) but of my continued education and development through seminars and knowledge sharing and networking with fellow wedding photographers and staying up to date on the latest trends and keeping my photography fresh and contemporary.

Wedding: Hai Ban & Vay

Hai Ban and Vay were also married on the 6 September and their wedding celebration day was on 23 September. Family and group photos were taken in Greenwich Park (remember to obtain a permit for the Royal Parks well in advance) and we had a lot of fun capturing some special moments between the two of them. Evening celebrations followed at Hong Kong City. On the way to their reception at Soho House we stopped for photos at Buckingham Palace, Green Park and private gardens. They both wanted their wedding pictures to reflect that they were married in London so we incorporated as many London city scapes as possible.

Okay, so I'm waaaay behind with my blogging again, but it's all wonderful because it means I've been super busy doing what I love!

Here's a few favourites from Martyn & Carole's recent wedding at the Registry Office in Bicester. Since they both play in a brass band and met one day at band practice, where more appropriate for them to get married then on a bandstand surrounded by their friends, family and of course fellow band members.

Seminar: Double Talk by Joe Buissink & Yervant

The MPA (Master Photographers Association) hosted Double Talk by two of my all time favourite photographers, Joe Buissink and Yervant at The Hilton, Croydon.

It was an amazing morning and Joe and Yervant was absolutely brilliant. I've *loved* Joe Buissink's work for ages now so was really excited to be able to hear him in person. They both showed us some inspiring slideshows of their photography, and as is very differant and how they approach wedding photography discussed how they work.

Joe shared with us some exclusive images from some of the weddings which he has shot (he's been a favorite wedding photographer among many celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey, Brendan Fraser, Kelsey Grammer, Hillary Swank & Chad Lowe, Christina Applegate, Jenny Garth & Peter Facinelli, Christina Aguilera and more..) as well as some from his latest project - still a 'fresh of the plane' shoot with Christina Aguilera and her production team on location from which they will produce exclusive GraphiStudio books for each of the team as a thank you and momento of their time with her. Some awesome work! Yervant showed us how he would post-produce them to a world class standard.

It was inspiring to see these two and how dedicated they are to teaching and sharing their experiences.

Italy: Amalfi Coast

We made the most of the recent long weekend and got out of London for a bit. We stayed in Naples the first night, but quickly moved on, crazy Italian drivers spurring me on! :-) to Sorrento.

From Sorrento we could explore Pompeii (Vesuvius was closed because of the weather on the day much to the relief of some not so eager for the hike up the mountain!) and the Isle of Capri.

A must see stop on the round trip of Capri is the Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto). The water and light is just amazing! And our Italian oarsman serrenading the girls didn't go a stray either (they don't all look so grumpy)!

We then moved on to Positano for the remainder of our stay and it's true what the guide books say - it is the most photographed of the villages and picture postcard perfect. Oh and yes, where other towns have streets Positano has stairs! And lots of them! No kidding..

From Positano we also explored Amalfi and the mountain villages of Ravello and Montepertuso - this stretch of the coast has the most amazing views of the Med.

The food is fanastic (best pizza ever in Ravello!) and each little village has something special and unique to offer.

Plenty cereamics and Lemoncello too..

Wedding: Paul & Lorraine, Finchingfield

Ah! Don't know what I did yesterday, but it seems I accidentially deleted the post with more of my favourites from Paul and Lorraine's wedding in Finchingfield! So here goes, Take II..

For a change we photographed the groom and ushers instead before the ceremony and I enjoyed capturing the action and fun as the boys walked up from the pub to the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist.

The reception was at the beautiful Spains Hall.

For the cutting of Lorraine and Paul's wedding cake, I not only wanted the traditional shot, but also a little something extra

Engagement: Rebecca & Ian

I met up with Rebecca and Ian a couple of Sundays back for their engagement portraits. They introduced me to Cannizaro Park on the west side of Wimbledon Common. Being new to Wimbledon (but not new to South West London) I never even knew it was there, but Rebecca says she spent a lot of time here as a child and I can see why. It's so lovely, green and peaceful - who would have guessed you're so close to the city!

It was probably the last weekend this year that the daffodils would be out looking their best..

Engagement: Paul & Lorraine

A couple of weeks ago I went with Lorraine & Paul to see the church where they'll be getting married as well as their reception venue. Oe, look how lovely and grand Spains Hall is:

The 17 March each year is a very special day for Lorraine and Paul. It was the day they met a few years ago, it's the day they got engaged in Cape Town last year (excellent choice of proposal location Paul!) and now its going to be their wedding day.

What a privilege it was to photograph Marc and Jo’s wedding earlier this month! A gorgeous bride, a handsome groom and wonderful friends and family celebrating their marriage. They make such a lovely couple - full of fun and laughter.. And after having done their engagement portraits some time ago they were perfectly comfortable in front of the camera.

So here we go, I thought I'd start by sharing a few of my favourite images from my recent trip home to South Africa and neighbouring Zimbabwe.

I'd hoped we'd find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow at Victoria Falls and we were so *close*!

I saw the stariest skies ever when we were in the middle of the bush one evening after a game drive.. like diamonds on a midnight blue blanket..

I always love silhouettes, especially at sunset..

Waking up to the sounds of nature and elephants feeding in the bay next to where our houseboat had anchored the night was one of the reasons I can't wait to go back to Kariba again some time..

I'd always heard about how beautiful the sunsets at Kariba were and I wasn't disappointed! The most awesome sunset of 2006 had to be on old year's eve..

And beautiful, peaceful Mazvikadei..

I loved Zim for it's natural beauty - it's a country with so much to offer.. and having my own personal tourguide of course did help a little :-) but I also met so many lovely people who made my stay extra special. Thank you, thank you!
